Throughout our week at VBS we collected non perishable food, snacks and beverages to help fill the kitchen at the Indigenous Student Centre.
Please read the letter below with more information on services they offer to students, and how they will be able to make use of our donations.
We are excited that we were able to collect a mountain of items for the Indigenous Student Centre through the week, and thank all of our campers and families for their donations.
Wilfrid Laurier’s Indigenous Student Centre is a place for all on both Waterloo and Brantford campuses. Whether it be Indigenous students looking for a quite comfortable place to study or allies of the Indigenous community wanting to connect or looking for resources. We have cultural and student success programming available for students to feel a sense of community while being away from their homes. We have supplies that help them throughout their education such as our Indigenous based library which has resources from Indigenous authors and scholars. Along with this we have many team members who are willing to help Indigenous students with additional programming, educational and cultural guidance. Having a welcoming place for students to come and enjoy themselves is important. To achieve a homey feel, we have a full sized kitchen available for students to cook and prepare their food.
With having a kitchen we to try keep the cupboards stocked for the students. Furthermore, non-perishable food items are acceptable for donations. Here at the Centre we have made a list of potential donations from parents. For example, Kraft Dinner, Mr. Noodles, pickles, protein bars, and granola bars, canned soup, and canned fruits and vegetables. As well as coffee, tea and hot chocolate is always appreciated. Also, ANYTHING that looks like a study snack for students is welcome.
For Indigenous people having a sense of community is important with the extreme culture shock for many when coming to University. We are committed to fostering a positive experience for all Indigenous students. For more information visit one of our Indigenous Student Centers or visit us at wlu.ca/indigenous. Thank you Martin Luther College University, Parents and camp attendees for choosing the Indigenous Student Centre as your organization to support.
